These are a Few of My Favorite Things

Pizzeria Mozza

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

Now that it's November and Thanksgiving (not to mention Christmas) is just around the corner, I start to think of the holidays. Of family, food and traditions. And I wonder, what things will be passed on to our son and what will we start with our new family?

My own childhood is wrapped around watching classic films around the holidays like Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer in The Sound of Music, or Jimmy Stewart roping the moon in Its a Wonderful Life. Of decorating the house - always a huge production with the scent of pine from the tree, twinkling lights and displays of ornaments collected over the years, playing "Do They Know it's Christmas Time?" on the stereo - all culminating with Christmas morning coffee and eating Chinese food for our family Christmas lunch. Watching the Pasadena Rose Parade - whether in person or on TV - during the early morning hours on the first day of the New Year.

These have always been a few of my favorite things.

And with the blending of families, I've enjoyed celebrating with my in-laws and their unique family and food traditions - of sushi making dinners, eating fruits and vegetables from their bountiful backyard garden, and delicious homemade strawberry shortcake.

I'm not sure how this particular stream of consciousness relates back to Mozza, except for the fact that I absolutely love their burrata squash blossom and fennel sausage pizzas! They are a must order whenever I go to Pizzeria Mozza. Both together make for a great combination of sweet, creamy, cheesy goodness and savory, spicy, meaty earthiness. And I guess can be said to be a few of my favorite things!

Lucky for me, we had these for my birthday dinner last week and ended the meal with the seasonal pumpkin gelato pie with candied pecans and rum raisins.

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
