Confession: Sushi while Pregnant

Well, it wasn't the first time last week and it wasn't just because it was my birthday.

The lady servers at Sasabune, and there's at least one new girl I don't know very well, always look at me when I waddle in. Some blatantly ask, "Can you eat raw fish?" as if to really say, "Are you crazy with pregnancy brain to eat sushi?!"

And all I want to reply is that "I am Japanese. Why not?"

Plus, I trust Nobi and I trust Hiroki with the quality of their fish and that they wouldn't serve me if they didn't think it was safe.

So last week, MS and I went to Sasabune for a quick lunch. He ordered their very reasonably priced lunch special that included miso soup, mixed salad, a platter of tuna, salmon and yellowtail sashimi, choice of sushi don - he chose salmon, and a crab roll - all for about $20.

I, on the other hand, had some certain cravings and ordered off the a la carte menu which came out to what an omakase set probably would have cost me, but I was full and happy to continue celebrating my birthday with style.

And if you've ever eaten with me at Sasabune, as Hiroki knows very well, I always order an extra crab roll as my dessert because one is never enough. It's that good.

Extra special on my birthday was spying Rob Reiner with his family having lunch at Sasabune too. Loved seeing him leave, hand-in-hand with his wife.

I left with another craving - Tiramisu!
(Yet, I still don't understand the reference from Sleepless in Seattle!)
