"Salt, butter and caramel combine to make a savory sweet confection that melts in your mouth."My husband ran into a college friend who was part of Artisanal LA's month long pop-up grand opening of "The Market" at Santa Monica Place. She was handing out samples of Justin Chao's caramels that are hand stirred for over an hour - macadamia nut, mango-passion and salted.
All I needed to know:
Free Caramel Samples.
So I headed in to meet my husband's friend and the young pastry chef whose background includes studying in Paris and working at a 3-star Michelin restaurant.
Always one who would support a friend in a new venture, I somehow felt connected to Justin's Le Bon Garcon and his love for the culinary arts. After sampling the three flavors, I fell in love with the salted variety. And just as I was promised, the caramels did not stick to my teeth. Instead, they melted and danced on the tongue.
With just a few dollars on hand, I purchased a small two-ounce bag for $5 which gave me a hand full of delicately wrapped caramels. I knew that if I didn't pace myself, I would finish the entire bag in mere moments. So I tried to savor each one.
Too bad that didn't last. Neither did the caramels.
Can't wait for another bag...
