It was 10pm and I wasn't ready to go home. The night was still young, and I had the munchies and was in need for a drink.
TW and I headed west on Melrose, on our way to El Carmen's which is one of my LA favorites for a great Mango Margarita. But along the way, I spied a sign I've been meaning to try:
Mozza.
Surely, there wouldn't be any problems for a table for two at 10pm on a Thursday night.
We valeted the car and popped inside to see a bustling, busy, and loud scene of young LA urbanites out on the town. Lucky for us, there was ONE small table for two and we didn't need a late night reservation.
I had a great feeling about this place.
Reminiscent were the glowing reviews and fabulous photos from Oishii Eats, Bree's Triple Creme, HC's LA/OC Adventure, and LA Foodblogging friends KT and Jonah.
So after being seated and greeted by our friendly server, I was excited to try something new and something that many of my virtual food friends have raved about. Unfortunately, both of us ate earlier and weren't too hungry. We opted to share a Burrata mozzarella cheese pizza with squash blossoms with a glass of red wine. The pizza was like nothing I'd ever had before - crisp and refreshingly light, it's deceiving. After one small slice, I thought I'd only have a little bit more. But in the end, kept cutting small slice after small slice until there was just one little small sliver left.
The buzz on Pizzeria Mozza and Mario Batali, Nancy Silverton, and Joseph Bastianich are all true. I will be going back for more soon...
Enjoy the hype, enjoy the vibe, enjoy the pie. But remember to call ahead for a table!

I can't wait to check this place out.
Thanks for your blog!! I am always looking for great new places to explore in L.A..
Hey Daniel! Welcome and thanks for the comment! Remember to call ahead for reservations - we got lucky with a table that night. ;) Happy Eating!
I made an 8 pm reservation for Mozza two weeks ago. Guess when the earliest reservation was? April 26!! That's a whole month in between! It better be good.
Hey Pirikara! Eek! Never knew that their reservation books were that crazy! Definitely get some wine! ;)
I have a friend from NY who told me last year that the best NY pizza was by Mario Batali. Perhaps that may be true for LA now too? Hmmm. Glad to hear you had a great experience!
Hey PE! Batali's pie was delicious! A must eat! :D
