Have I mentioned how much I love Sasabune?I *LOVE* Sasabune. OK, so "love" is definitely a major understatement.
Just when I think I've had enough, I go back for more... and tonight was no exception. My girlfriends laughed at my "food snobbiness" for knocking Crazy Fish, but had no complaints after we had an incredible sushi dinner at Nobi's Sushi Sasabune.
I love how Nobi lights up the room with his smile and laughter, and how he makes you feel like home when you sit at his bar. And I love our favorite sushi chef Hiroki who we will love to chat with. It's too bad that he always refuses to drink with us. I guess at 6pm, it's a bit too early for him to drink while he's working and as he says, "After one drink, I can't stop." JT and I love sitting with Hiroki and chatting with him about his wife and his plans. And like young schoolgirls, we laugh with giddyness as we tell him that we love his sushi.
Tonight though, I think he laughed at the three of us:
GY - aka Sasabune VirginYes - Sasabune is that good.
As she walked in a few minutes late and told them that it was her first time there, both Nobi and Hiroki laughed because they already knew she was a Sasabune Virgin. It was pretty funny! JT and I watched to see if her eyes rolled back with each bite; and even though they didn't roll back, she's already hooked and made her reservations to come back this Friday night!
JT - aka Sasabune Whore
She was there last week, tonight, and will be there again on Friday night too! Each dish was "her favorite." Even the guy next to us laughed as she told him which were her favorites. First the Blue Fin Tuna, then the Salmon, and then the Blue Crab Roll...
BoLA - aka Sasabune Pig
I ate THREE blue crab rolls with my omakase dinner AND a lychee sorbet. And as we were walking out the restaurant, I mentioned that there was a new Pinkberry down the street on Sawtelle. And yes, I succumbed to peer pressure and made my reservation to come back on Friday too.
Some Tips:
*Call for reservations well in advance.
*Eat early.
*Sit at the sushi bar.
*Park in the building off of McClellan. They validate it for free.
*Order an extra crab roll.
*Save room for lychee sorbet.

I randomly found your blog via a google search. I recently moved to Chicago after living in LA my whole life. Although the food is great out here, I still miss all my favorite restaurants so much, especially sasabune!!! I'll just have to live vicariously through your posts. thx.
