Kang Nam Restaurant is a local Korean favorite of my family. With quality meats, seafoods, and vegetables, there's always something good to choose from their menu.
Lucky for me, MS and I were treated to some good eats at Kang Nam during my birthday weekend. Thanks to my family, we ordered dishes of bulgogi, chicken, shrimps and scallops as well as a seafood pancake and some chap chae. The uncooked meats came out shortly after all the small dishes of kim-chee reds, dark maroon spicy vegetables and mild neutral colors of beansprouts and chunky potato salads. The latter of which - I love to eat. All my kim-chee and spicy foods get passed to MS.
While eating his kim-chee, MS was also in charge of cooking our meats - a task I always try to avoid and will sit farthest from the center table grill to do so. There's just something about the smoke in my face and hair that's bothersome, my unsteady chopstick skills hoping not to drop a piece of raw chicken into a bowl of rice, and the idea of being responsible for everyone's food. If given the choice, I'd rather pass the tongs and extra pair of chopsticks to MS.
That way, I get to just eat.

And he did a great job! The meats were all tender and mild in flavor. I wished for a stronger flavor and marinade with the meats; but then again, the dipping sauces were VERY strong in flavor and complemented the meats and greens made up of romaine lettuce, green onions, and a tangy korean dressing.
My favorite of the night were the sweet, succulent scallops that came in our minimum order of two seafood platters. The shellfish glistened on the grill as they cooked and were absolutely delicious!

My least favorite dish of the night, though, was the seafood pancake with bits of octopus and other goodies I could not fully identify. It was soft and tasted a little undercooked. (I typically like my Korean pancakes crisp and a little burnt along the edges.) We all had one piece, and boxed up the rest for leftovers. The next day, the seafood pancake transformed into a tasty snack after being toasted in the toaster oven. Just the right amount of burnt and firm consistency which was very delicious.
After a night full of food and gluttony, there was absolutely no room for dessert and I was a happy birthday girl. Nothing beats good food with loved ones and celebrating birthdays well after they've passed.

Happy Birthday!
I love Korean food, although I need to do a lot more exploring into the different types. So far, my only exposure has been soft tofu or BBQ.

happy birthday BoLA!
good idea putting the leftover pa-jeon in the toaster oven--i don't like it either when those things aren't crispy enough.
