This is what you get when some of my family comes together for a 1st birthday party: Homemade sugar cookies, Hawaiian-Island Creation style. They were so cute, I gobbled a handful of them up before shooting a photo of one to remember what to do the next time we've got a potluck with a Luau theme. Thanks for the cousin who made each candied piece for the eyes, nose, flower lei, and hula skirt put in place by drawing dots and lines with a toothpick. That's what I call being detail oriented!

And no real birthday party is complete without the infamously delicious, 3-flavored Paradise Cake from King's Hawaiian Bakery. My little cousin's boy got this island masterpiece of a cake, topped with a few party store finds for the surfer he'll one day become. Not sure how long a custom order like the above takes to make, but knowing my artistically inclined-crafts enthusiast of a cousin, TY's always got something cute like this up her Hawaiian tee sleeve.
