Go East Young [Wo]man
...finding my way to Bombay Cafe

"Shoot! I made a wrong turn!"...
...as I drive westbound on Pico Blvd off of the 10 West Bundy exit.

That's it. I hate Mapquest. I hate Yahoo Maps. and yet...I always turn to them when I need directions. Too bad my Hybrid doesn't have a Navigation system, and my use of the Force is completely wrong.

For the directionally challenged, like myself, I like to plan ahead and print step-by-step directions to where I have to be. At least, I do when I have the time. But this time (and it's not the first), the star on my map indicating where I should be...pointed me in the wrong direction instead.

So I made a quick u-turn on Pico Blvd and headed East to get to Bombay Cafe. It was a good thing my girlfriend CLB was running a bit late. A quick call to her and I told her that the restaurant was East of Bundy, not West. I turned left at the first street after driving past the restaurant. Where do I park??? Ahhh...I passed the little metal sign that read, "Valet Parking down the alley." Yet another quick U-turn to pay $4.50 for parking. I dialed CLB again and gave her specific details on where to park: Turn right into the alley just after you pass Pico on Bundy.

At 5:45pm, the restaurant was fairly empty, and I got the chance to chat with the bartender. She was a student at UCLA applying for medical schools across the country. CLB arrived not too long after and we were seated quickly at a small table for two towards the front of the restaurant. As we ordered our food, I hardly noticed that the restaurant began to fill up with a pretty good mix of people. Soon, I found it hard to hear what CLB is saying about work and her dating life. I looked around and noticed that the place was PACKED!

From TL clockwise, we ordered my favorite Indian dish - Chicken Masala. Spicy with just the amount of cream, great with some basmati rice. We also ordered an eggplant dish, some grilled spicy tandoori jumbo shrimps that were absolutely delicious, and ended our meal with one of my favorite all time ice creams - MANGO! Loved this sweet, creamy, cool dessert so much that it deserved a closer look.

Note: Expect to pay $$$ for this Westside version of what you could get in Artesia for much LESS!

hey kristy a.k.a. "the Bus"... props to you...

from a one month outsiders point of view, kristy... it would be safe to say you are very analogous to the Jerome Bettis of the L.A. Foodblogging community... bringing good attitude, camraderie, and team play into the food blogging community

where other blog communities seem rather distant, the L.A. Food bloggers seem to be a tighter bunch due to the efforts of people like yourself..

keep up the good work Bus!

I have yet to figure out who the T.O. of the group is though... ha ha..

Hey DietCCF! Thanks for the nice comments! Wow...compared to an NFL role model. ;) heehee! But who is T.O.???

T.O. is Terrell Owens, kicked off the Philadelphia Eagles... epitome of selfishness, not a team player... ;(

seems like L.A. foodbloggers are relatively T.O. free, which really amazes me cause Angelenos are typically not considered to be so friendly... hmmmmmmm... interesting case study for me...

and if Phoenix or Kansas City Foodbloggers try recruiting you as their Ambassador of FoodBloggers.. you should politely decline... ;)

Yeah, the food was okay but more like Americanized Indian food. Kind of like PF Chang's, tailored for the general populace's taste. There's actually a good Indian joint in Fullerton, too. Can't remember the name though, but it's in the Little India section of town.

Hey DietCCF! Ahhh...so many references to pro football. Too bad I didn't watch the Superbowl game. Ah well...heard it wasn't all that anyway. ;)

T.O. was something I was familiar with as an undergrad student at USC - "Thematic Option" GE core classes...we called them "Traumatic Option." Sounds like Terrell Owens too!

Hey GT! How's it on your end? What's new with your life? Sorry I had to miss your birthday shindig the other weekend. Hope it was a good one! Anyway...if you like Indian food...head to Artesia for some real good authentic cuisine! Love it there! Used to go there to get threaded until I found a good place out here on Venice.

I'm still wondering which indian place is the best in the West Side. I really like your photo shot from the inside -- it's different. I can see your Hybrid screeching all over the place on Wilshire Blvd. as you use the twisted yahoo directions haha.

To DCCF, there are a few T.O.'s. But for the most part, everyone in LA is considerate in providing details on good eats.

Chicken Masala? Mmmmm.. it can't be as good as the one you prepared though. We should make indian food again. I still have some of those minty bits from the last time.

Hey EDnbM! Let me know if you figure out which Indian place is best on the West side! ;) And you know me, speeding down in the carpool lane with my fast pass yellow stickers.

Hey McSala! Oh yes! Let's definitely make some Indian food again real soon! Miss cooking in the kitchen! ;)
