Not just a Standard Night Out!
Girls Night Out

That's all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Girls-- they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun

[cyndi lauper]

The night began with dinner at The Standard with the girls. Unfortunately for me, I didn't run to the Bank before I got there and had to make some change for the $8 parking fee or the $20 wristband to get up to the roof. Thanks to the girls, it wasn't a problem.

We were immediately seated at our table reserved for 8 and placed our orders. From TL (top left) clockwise, we had a plate of soft and soggy calamari, miso smothered on top of a hunk of cod, bloody steak with frites that had to be sent back to the kitchen to be cooked "well" and a big bowl of Ragu spaghetti and meatballs.

The vibe in the restaurant was very cool and chic with its yellow mod theme, but the food and service were definitely lacking. Even the server apologized for the food and the service. "Sorry the food and service is so bad."

Wow. Never had that before. But so true!

After finishing our meal, one of the best parts of the night was going to the bathroom and checking ourselves out in the mirror. Both the men's and the women's restrooms welcomed you with this huge mirrored mural. At first glance, I didn't notice it until someone pointed it out to me. Because, well...normally, I don't look up when I'm soaping it and rinsing off. But on a double take, I had to take a photo!

And then, we all took notice of the $2 photo booth by the bathroom. We all piled in to make some pretty interesting pictures.

We spent the rest of the evening on the rooftop of the hotel, enjoying the city's lights. Played on the water filled pod lounges, watched the huge projected movie on a neighboring building, and soaked in a night full of dance and laughter.

My recommendation: Skip dinner here and head straight up to the roof bar for some great company with a great view!

Yeah, the Standard is cool. The restaurant at the Sunset Blvd one is the same way. Bad food, high prices (for what you get). I think the one I went to was their 24 hour casual diner...Yuck. That's odd, I thought if you ate there, you wouldn't have to pay for cover. Oh well, I can get on the list so that's not really an issue. :)

Scene is ok at both (I prefer the downtown one actually), but I prefer the Viceroy in Santa Monica over both.

Hey dietCCF! Thanks for stopping by. Pam's GREAT!

Hey xericx! We asked for wristbands, but no go. Not even after that hella expensive, substandard food we ordered at the Restaurant. And WOW...you can get on the list? You must be way cool! How do *I* get on the list? My girlfriend used to work here when it first opened but I never went with her while she was there. :( Hmm..Viceroy's in Santa Monica? Will have to check it out.

Hey Elmomonster! I know, right? Just goes to show you...Look up every once in a while!

Hey Neal! You know that we had fun...it's never a dull moment with the girls! ;)

I'm not cool. I just know people who know people. etc etc etc.

Viceroy is very cool....nice retro-looking lounge chairs...plus you don't have to trek all the way to hollywood or downtown for us Westsiders!

It's all about those egg shaped waterbeds on the roof. I could fall asleep in those during the dya and well, other activities at night...

my boyfriend took me here for my birthday. we got a room, so the wristband was free but talk about snooty service. but the room was beautiful and so is the rooftop. we laughed at the menu and after a few drinks headed over to jtown nearby for some grub to take back to room with us.
