Even before MS and I went down to Venice Beach this past weekend, I had been craving pizza. Just the night before, I mentioned to him that I had the sudden urge for some good pizza. (And that was AFTER I had a couple of cream puffs from Beard Papa's - post on that excursion will be up in a day or two). I remembered hearing friends talk about their favorite pizza slices from an Abbot's Pizza on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, and thought what a great weekend to try it out!
We parked his Mustang and walked down the Boulevard in search of this famed pizza place. We looked right. We looked left. We passed Jin Patisserie, knowing that we'd be back later that afternoon. Finally, towards the end of the street, we reached it. Next to a coffee house, this small stand could easily be passed if you drive by. But as we approached on foot, we noticed people going in and out with slices of pizza on flimsy picnic-style white paper plates. Two small tables and benches sat outside the eclectic pizza spot. With the limited seating, I grabbed one and snapped a photo of the one across from me while MS went inside and ordered two slices for us. I liked the dog.
Our first slice was standard pepperoni with its infamous bagel crust full of poppy seeds and sesame seeds. Sadly, I was not impressed with this chewy and ordinary piece but loved the crust. We both finished the thin slices of crunchy pizza and didn't feel quite full. So I went inside and decided to order another piece for us to split. After spying the two cases full of pizza slices, I seemed a bit lost and immediately asked the server for some help on what she would recommend. The pesto, garlic, tomato, onion, spinach, ricotta cheese, mushroom pizza. Mmm. Sounded good so I gave her my three dollars and went outside with fork and knife to cut it in half. This time, as I bit into my half of the pizza, I knew why this pizza place was a favorite of so many. A complete contrast from the first slice, it was tender, juicy, and deliciously full of flavors. We both agreed that this slice was definitely worth the lunch!
Later that afternoon, we strolled along the Boardwalk by the beach and I snapped this photo of MS. It reminds me of how much I love this city and Southern California. Yes, it's definitely good to be home.Abbot's Pizza Company

i love love love this place. i always get the fourway or the mushroom pizza which is made with olive pesto. when i used to work in playa del rey, i ate here all the time. this place and Greco's over on hollywood/cahuenga are my top 2 pizza picks. let me know next time you and MS go, i miss this place.
The pizza was fantastic, as was chillin in venice. I love that city for its chill style and liberal tolerance.
i wish the water was warmer and clearer like it is in Hawaii, but I guess we can't complain too much.
mac, i tried to take you mark and nick here so many times but no one wanted to go to venice haha. now you know. try the mushroom w/ olive pesto pizza.
Last picture HURTs. I live like a mile from the ocean, I haven't gone to the beach in like 3 years...gotta go just take a walk!
Yummmmm..the last pizza pic looks so delish! Looks like there's a lotta places you gotta take me too...this place, tito's, and beard papas! Hee Hee! Oh...there's this place in Hermosa called Japonica...just like musha but more modern, and pricer! Was REALLY good though.
Dylan: Thanks for sharing Chabuya with MS and me. Good fun, good company, good times. We should all go down to Venice one of these days.
