A few weeks ago (yes, I'm way way behind on my Best of LA posts)...MS and I headed to Elysian Park for a friendly game against the NY Mets. My second game of the season, I was excited to see my hometown team hit the winning homerun in the bottom of the 10th. Okay, so I didn't actually see the homerun made by Navarro. His very first in the MLB, and I missed it! Doh! We ended up leaving the game at the top of the ninth to try to beat the mad dash out of the stadium parking lot. But I *did* catch the play-by-play live report of the winning homerun on KFWB-News98 while in the car. It was a pretty good game all throughout and much better because we won!
In any event, I love my city teams. Whether the Dodgers, Clippers, Lakers, Kings, or the Trojans, I've cheered them on from as long as I can remember. Sitting in Elysian Park, though, brings back so many memories of my childhood. From the Carnation Chocolate Malts that can only be enjoyed while watching a game of baseball...to standing during the 7th inning stretch and singing "Take me out to the ballgame"...to my adolescent hopes of catching a fly ball, there's something about watching a live baseball game that's nostalgic and fun. Normally, you wouldn't catch me watching it on the tube, but give me the chance to sit in the stands and I'm there!
Of course, a baseball game in Los Angeles is never complete without chowing down on a good long Dodger Dog! This time, MS and I got some garlic fries from the Gordon Biersch stand...and they didn't hold back on the garlic. The seasonings and little bits of garlic on the fries made it oh-so-yummy! And in true Dodger dog form, we dressed them up. Only ketchup for me - I like it plain; everything for him - including chopped onions and mustard! A definite must for sports enthusiasts or LAists like me. If only the Dodgers were playing better this season... But even then, it's always fun to do the wave and have some good eats while cheering in True Blue fashion.

i love the gordon biersch garlic fries. i like those over the dodger dogs. yum.
Ditto on the Bordon Biersch Garlic Fries - though when I go to a ballgame I do need a hot dog or two! When I was a kid the Carnation Malts were what I got at the movies....
Give me Garlic Fries, or Give me Death! Don't fire until you see the white of the carnation icecream! good times, great taste.
Dylan: Yeah, the garlic fries were a lot yummier than the Dodger dogs. But the dogs bring back so many good childhood memories. :)
Kirk: Ooo...malts at the movies? Sounds fantabulous! Although, I usually get pretty chilly in the theatres.
i actually prefer costco hotdogs over dodger dogs. but you obviously can't go to a game w/o having a DD. i should show you my dodger ad campaign. there's some good lines in there.
i really liked that you explored going to a baseball game -- from the food angle. Because, honestly, baseball is such a slow game, that the experience would be excrutiating without all the fun food. It's also the only place I know where you can eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor.
Although Angelenos have a bad reputation for leaving before the game is over -- (uh-hum, cough cough)
Tres bien! Pommes frites et saucisses en pain!
Mac: Good times always!
Dylan: Would love to see your portfolio sometime! And yes, I love Costco dogs too...not to mention sampling during the lunch hour.
Neil: Aw c'mon...you gotta love baseball! But then again, this is coming from someone who also likes to watch golf! muhahaha! And yes, I'm all about the food! ;)
Elmo: Si seulement je parlais français...
dodger dogs are the best! one of the best reasons to go to a dodgers game.
