Adopt a Pet & Eat Pizza!

with my new buddy, JustinAdopt a pet like MM did and join us for an evening out in LA!

A few weeks ago, we went to the Pet Adoption Fair in Manchester. Seeing as I already have two cats - a polydactyl named Pumba and an all white cutie named Mochi - I was only there for support (and of course, to play with the animals on a nice Sunday afternoon!). MM, on the other hand, was on a mission - to find a life long partner, a best paw pal, someone whom she could call her own. It was love at first sight, so she says. Justin was it for her. When his doggy eyes met hers, she knew instantly that it was meant to be.

As an official God-Auntie for Justin, I brought over some beef stick treats from my favorite LA pet store - Centinela Feed and Pet Supplies and welcomed him into our family. I found him to be a sweet natured soul, and it was hard not to love the guy.

a nice walk in LAAnd when we took our usual walk around the neighborhood, Justin was by our sides. Actually, he ended up being sandwiched in between us as if he were afraid of the passing cars on the street. (How cute was that?!) Or maybe not so cute...Perhaps he was neglected in a previous life, perhaps it was his upbringing of being bounced from one shelter to the next, or perhaps he's just a needy son of a bitch. In all likelihoods, it's probably a combination of all three. Regardless, we three urbanites strolled over to a favorite Larchmont spot for dinner - the Village Pizzeria.

Outside signageMM had been there before and recommended this dog-friendly restaurant for a quick bite. It's a bit further north on Larchmont - past another pizza place called Z Pizza (or something to that effect) that was "not as good" which could be seen in the number of empty tables. But as soon as we got close to Village Pizzeria, you could just sense the difference. The place was full of neon color, hopping with live energy and conversations, and had a constant flow of customers going in and out. We even had to wait a few minutes for a table facing the street to open up.

Neon Pizza by the SliceThe entire time we were there, people were always coming and going, and going and coming, and always too soon. (Maybe not too soon, but I just couldn't help referencing a silly American movie classic). In any event, this casual pizzeria had quite an extensive menu with lots of fresh (no additives) California topping choices, thin crusts made with fresh yeast, and a pretty good fresh squeezed lemonade that didn't leave my throat scratchy. And although I was in a non-alcoholic mood that night, I did notice that they offered a selection of wine and beer at this pizzeria. For an extra few corking dollars (3 to be exact), you could even bring your own bottle of vino.

Garlic, Tomato, Mushroom, Cheeeese PizzaWe ordered one of my favorite pizzas: Cheese with fresh tomatos, mushrooms, and plenty o' garlic - 14 inch on thin crust! I usually wouldn't recommend a garlic dish on a date or order one up if I planned to spend some quality time with a loved one. But since MM is more of a sister to me and Justin was her date, I wanted them to be extra generous with the garlics...which they were! YUM!

As we waited for our dinner, I noticed that other patrons ordered their special house pesto pizza which looked absolutely scrumptious. And as soon as I saw those other plates, I had some buyer's remorse and wanted to change my order to pesto. But alas, the order was placed and well, it's just another excuse for me to visit and eat there again. The tom-mush-lic combo was a pretty good slice of pizza. It had to have been - I ended up eating 4 fat slices!

I love this place...one of my favorite cheap eats when I lived in the vicinity! Love their pizza but their meatball and chicken parm subs ain't bad either.

Yes, PIZZA is another one of my all-time favorite comfort foods. I never tire of it and love a good pie. And *cheap* is also another one of my faves! Total cost for our pizza and drinks that night + tip = $24. Only $12 out of my pocket with leftovers for lunch. :)
