Feeding the brain is just as important to me as feeding my stomach. So this past Saturday, MS and I took advantage of the Brentwood Library's close proximity and walked over for an afternoon of reading and writing. We browsed the stacks of cooking books and other delightful food books, and even utilized my LA Library Card to check out an interesting find. After a day of exercising the mind, we then trekked over to Coral Tree Cafe for some good eats. I'd been there once before and had a decent turkey sandwich for lunch. This time, MS and I shared the Rosemary Chicken Sandwich that was made with brie cheese, fresh pear slices, arugula greens, and mayo on a ciabatta roll along with the Chinese Chicken Salad with pomegranate dressing and cashews. [see photo] Both of which were items on the menu that were recommended by the guy behind the counter. I particularly enjoyed the salad with sweet mandarin oranges and a few ripe red raspberries, especially on such a nice summer evening in LA. The house blend coffee was smooth and from shade grown beans (like Literati), which was a great ending to our meal.
I noticed that the cafe also had a pretty wide selection of wine, beer, sandwiches, soups and salads. The interior counter and setting reminded me of a little more conservative Zingerman's Deli in Ann Arbor, Michigan. (I would LOVE to find something like Zingerman's here in LA!)
Very natural and organic, Coral Tree Cafe provides patrons with the choice of eating indoors, outdoors underneath an awning, or next to the outside fire pit. A great place to people watch or just relax, Coral Tree Cafe has a casual and welcoming atmosphere with healthy eats.

i also had a sandwich similar to yours at the Alcove Cafe in Los Feliz: ham and cheese panini w/ pears. next sandwich i'm making, pears are going in. i used to go here for weekend coffee. it's a chill place.
I personally like Asian pears, chilled. And never really thought about adding them into my sandwiches but will have to try them next time. Did you know that Franklin Avenue was a stomping ground of mine back in the day? Picnics in Griffith Park should be fun too! On my list of to dos in the city.
Btw, *thanks* for the homemade curry the other night! Yum!
